Kauai is the oldest of the main Hawaiian Islands. The highest peak on this mountainous island is Kawaikini 1598 m, only a few meters higher than the nearby Mount Waialeale. East of it is one of the wettest spots on Earth, with an annual average rainfall of 11,7 m(!). Kauai was the first island that Captain James Cook sighted on
his voyages to North America.
