Rome is the largest city of Italy with about 3.8 millions living in the province of Rome. It includes the Vatican, which is the seat of the Roman Catholic Church, as a sovereign enclave.

Venice, which is often nicknamed "Queen of the Adriatic", stretches across numerous small islands in the marshy Venetian lagoon along the Adriatic Sea in northeast Italy between the mouths of the rivers Po and Piave.
The buildings of Venice are constructed on closely spaced wooden piles which penetrate alternating layers of clay and sand. Most of these piles are still intact after centuries of submersion....
