Praslin is the second largest island (38 km2) of the Seychelles, having a population of about 6,500 people. Praslin is known as a tourist destination with clear waters and many beaches and hotels. The interior of the island is mostly covered by tropical forests with many endemic plants.

About 90 percent of the Seychellois population is living on Mahé, a third of them (25000) in the capital Victoria. Mahé is granitic and covered by tropical forest with rare enemic plants, such as the Jellyfish tree or the carnivorous Seychelles Pitcher plant.
