Mount Blanc is the highest mountain in Western Europe. Its 4,807-meter-high peak lies in the ridgeline of the Pennine Alps and the peak defines the border between France and Italy. Its name means "White Mountain" in French, though in earlier centuries, it was also known as Mont Maudit, or the "Accursed Mountain".

The island of Corsica is located west of Italy and south of France and covers about 8700 km2. Corsicas population is approx. 260000 people, about the half of them living in the two bigger towns, Bastia, Ajaccio and Calvi. The official language on Corsica is French, however, many people speak Corsu, which is a language of Latin origin and closely resembles Italian.

Brittany or Bretagne occupies a large peninsula in the north-west of France, lying between the English Channel to the north and the Bay of Biscay to the south. While Brittany's most popular summer resorts are on the south coast, the northern part is pristine and more exposed. It took us 10 days to walk along about one third of the northern coast, enjoying this impressive countryside with its quiet villages and friendly people.
